TYPO3 Camp Berlin 26

After more than 20 years working with TYPO3, I have now attended my first TYPO3 Camp.

I started using TYPO3 CMS and developing extensions for TYPO3 in 2004, and haven't looked back since. My first TYPO3 event was the TYPO3 Conf 2010 in Frankfurt, Germany, and I have attended multiple events since but never a camp. My last TYPO3 event was the TYPO3 Developer Days in 2022, so I have been missing out some events the last four years.

I have really been looking forward to the TYPO3 Camp, and there is a first for everything.

Camp Format

A camp format is different from conferences, at camps the schedule isn't planned ahead, it's done together on location beginning each day. So if someone has some interesting topics they want to talk about then can raise the topic and see if other share the passion.

I think the format is better for engaging the community, and not only the speaker. It lets more people share their knowledge and inputs.

WarmUp Party

The Camp started with a warm-up party at adesso, where there was served some drinks and pizzas (of course). I was really happy to see so many familiar faces and new ones. It's always cool to catch up with old friends, some I haven't seen since the TYPO3 Developer Days in Malmö, 2017 and T3EE Conference in Cluj 2016, so it was really nice meeting them again.

The evening was nice and cosy, just mingling around. I had a good time, had some good talks/discussion, and got the know a few new people as well, and put faces on names I have known for ages from the comminuty, nut never meet in person.

Friday and Saturday

Both days started with the session planning, there was a lot of cool topics on the board, a lot AI related topics, which was no surprice, so one had to select which to attend and which to leave out.

I joined some fun sessions, some serious and some where I learned a lot.

Spoiler: PowerPoint Karaoke, it's really fun, but you need to be good at freestyling and improvising, https://ppt-karaoke.mittwald.fun/.

Take aways

  • I really felt how much i habe been missing the community. So will see how to get back in the rythm of joining more events again.
  • TYPO3 has an open and respectful community
  • Sessions topics are less important to me than networking

Conclusion

I will for sure see if I can join some TYPO3 Camps in the future, and Berlin is a good candidate, due to how it's organised, but also the distance from Denmark.
